Nutrient Management
How it works
A crop nutrient management plan is a tool used to increase the efficiency of all nutrient sources your crop uses. This practice involves managing the amount, placement, and timing of plant nutrients to obtain maximum yields and minimize the risk of surface and groundwater pollution.
There are several components that can be incorporated into a nutrient management plan. Including a detailed field map outlining acres, soil types, and other general characteristics. Soil tests, which is a key component is developing a nutrient rate recommendation, crop sequence, sources and forms available nutrients including manure application and legume credits, estimated yield, etc.
How it helps
- Tightens up the nutrient to crop conversion rate eliminating excess nutrients, in turn reducing the chances of nutrients reaching streams, lakes, or groundwater.
- Helps reduce unnecessary inputs while maximizing crop production - improving your farm's profitability!
